TIME Magazine

Illustrative Editorial and Cover Design

The assignment for this project was to pick a controversial topic and magazine and create an editorial and cover illustration for the magazine. For the illustrations, we were to manipulate photographs using either mark-making, collage, transfer, or photo-degradation. I chose an article about the tragic death of Sarah Everard and the “Reclaim These Streets” movement. For my illustration, I chose all four methods of photo manipulation. For the background, I made a collage of protest signs and ripped them up and used the transfer method to symbolize the degradation that happens to women from sexual assault. I also included a woman being “silenced” with mark-making across her body to show the actual acts of assault.
