The assignment for this project was to create a book cover for a famous poet using only liquid mediums. I chose Sylvia Plath so I wanted to give the cover an overall feeling of sadness and desolateness. I sprayed gray ink using a spray bottle and flicked black ink on the background to give texture and show the grittiness of Sylvia’s poems. For the illustration, I used watercolor paint and black ink. I made lots of drips with the watercolor paint to symbolize tears. The hand-painted type was the last touch to capture the sad, moody themes of the poems inside.
